Peiyang (Camille) Li is a Shenzhen and New York-based fashion designer and textile artist whose work investigates the intersections of culture, materiality, and the moral dimensions of human innovation. Drawing from her background in macramé, crochet, knitting, and experimental fiber techniques, Li creates sculptural textile forms that blur the line between fashion and conceptual art. Her practice merges the precision of design with the freedom of storytelling, using fabric as both medium and metaphor.
A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Li has developed a multidisciplinary approach that reflects her experience living across continents. She has earned recognition from the iF Design Award and the French Fashion Awards and is a member of the Global Female Design Council. Her work has been exhibited at The Blanc Gallery in New York and Lumiere Runway in Los Angeles. Each collection becomes a narrative of contemporary tension—between technology and ecology, tradition and transgression, beauty and consequence.
Deeply influenced by Western philosophy and Eastern cosmology, Li’s storytelling often begins with conversations gathered through her work as a professional astrological consultant. These human stories, translated into form and texture, anchor her work in empathy while expanding it into a universal discourse. Through the manipulation of fiber, she unravels themes that society hesitates to confront, transforming textile into an instrument of reflection and critique.

Description
Medusa Octopus from Nuclear Waste: Mutant Creatures forms part of Li’s speculative series that visualizes the unseen effects of human technology on natural evolution. Crafted from recycled and organic fibers, the work investigates mutation as both a biological and philosophical condition. The hybrid creature—a fusion of land and sea life—embodies the anxieties of a world altered by radiation and neglect, reflecting humanity’s uneasy coexistence with the ecosystems it disrupts.
The tactile composition of the sculpture is as intentional as its concept. Woven from wool, nylon, and cotton, the form suggests both growth and decay, a beauty that unsettles rather than soothes. Li’s process transforms craft into inquiry, merging ancient techniques with contemporary critique. The work’s intricate construction evokes the adaptability of nature while questioning whether adaptation itself has become a form of survival under duress.
Through this piece, Li reimagines textile art as a site of moral contemplation. The Medusa Octopus invites viewers to confront the consequences of human ambition and to recognize the fragile threshold between creation and contamination.
