Sario De Nola is an Italian artist from Puglia who lives and works in Brooklyn. His work moves between gesture and memory, tracing the transition from graffiti to abstraction with poetic precision. Beginning his practice on city walls in 1999, De Nola spent years painting in public spaces before turning inward, developing a visual language that transcends the codes of street art while preserving its raw immediacy.
His paintings emerge like fragments of a dream remembered in motion. Each work is conceived as a frame within an ongoing stream of consciousness, where images dissolve into rhythm and color. De Nola’s process is unpremeditated, guided by intuition and sensory recall. Through his use of gesture, texture, and light, he captures fleeting moments of perception and transforms them into visual meditations on presence.
The artist’s evolution reflects a search for balance between the external and the internal, the collective space of the street and the intimate territory of memory. The resulting works possess a tactile stillness that feels simultaneously urban and psychological, anchored in movement yet suspended in reflection.

Description
Untitled belongs to De Nola’s ongoing exploration of abstraction as memory. The painting unfolds as a field of layered gesture, where color, mark, and rhythm form a visual echo of consciousness. What begins as motion settles into stillness, and what appears abstract gradually reveals itself as emotional architecture.
Through his brushwork, De Nola captures the tension between chaos and clarity. Each gesture records a sensory trace, the impression of light, sound, or scent that lingers long after the moment has passed. The canvas becomes both map and mirror, charting the movement of thought through texture and space.
Rather than depicting an external scene, Untitled offers an inner landscape, one that invites the viewer to experience perception itself. It asks to be read not as image but as memory—fleeting, layered, and alive.
