Alphonse Avila (He/Him) is a mixed media artist whose work deals with physical space, the spiritual plane, and the tensions that spark between them. A trans person born to a deeply religious family, he originally sought answers to some of those tensions in ancient literature, medieval manuscripts, and early modern epics. This concern with narrative is palpable within his work. As an emerging artist, his current focus is recontextualizing naturally occurring features of the body and earth to articulate spiritual truths.
