Greg Soviak is a Brooklyn-based fine art photographer whose work explores themes of absence, emotional distance, and impermanence. His photographs examine the quiet fractures within urban life, places where connection feels just out of reach. Working primarily in black and white, Soviak uses blur, reflection, and stillness to evoke memory and longing amid the pace of the city.
Fractured Beauty: The Elegance of Imperfection at Bushwick Gallery marks his debut exhibition. Soviak is currently developing several long-form photographic series and zines that continue his exploration of emotional distance and the beauty found in imperfection.

Soviak is drawn to spaces that echo human absence. A rusted door, a wall that has heard things, a room that no longer welcomes visitors. These are not just architectural details but emotional mirrors. Through his lens, imperfection becomes evidence of life rather than its erasure.

Description
Fractured was photographed on Governors Island, where a rusted basement door sits between function and decay. For Soviak, it represents both access and exclusion, a threshold that once held purpose but now stands forgotten. The image becomes a portrait of what remains when connection fades, echoing the thresholds we outgrow or can no longer cross.
Soviak’s process centers on stillness and reflection. The photograph is not only about a physical space but also an emotional one, where beauty lingers in what is no longer whole. The overlooked becomes a vessel for memory and quiet persistence.
