Audrey Flatt is an emerging artist whose work blends figuration, abstraction, and dense organic patterning into vivid explorations of femininity and the natural world. Based between Nashville and Brooklyn, Flatt’s artistic practice has been shaped by years of independent study, formal training, and continuous experimentation. Her upbringing in rural Tennessee, surrounded by wildlife, open landscapes, and outdoor life, continues to influence the visual language of her work.
Flatt’s practice is rooted in the belief that art can be visually immersive while remaining emotionally and intellectually resonant. Using bright color palettes, flowing lines, and layered forms, she creates compositions that blur distinctions between reality and abstraction. Themes of femininity, nature, and perception frequently emerge throughout her work, often dissolving traditional boundaries between human figures, flora, and fauna. Her imagery invites viewers to reconsider what is tangible, what is imagined, and how closely interconnected the body remains to the natural environment.
Influenced by Impressionism and the expressive possibilities of abstract figuration, Flatt approaches drawing intuitively, allowing color and movement to guide the evolution of each piece. Her process favors instinct over rigid structure, embracing fluidity and improvisation as essential components of image-making. Through her work, she aims to create experiences that are thoughtful yet accessible, demonstrating that art can carry emotional depth while still retaining joy, curiosity, and visual playfulness.

Description
Desire Lines explores the fluid relationship between the female form and the natural world through a richly layered triptych composed of birds, a female nude, and a deer. Across each panel, Audrey Flatt dissolves distinctions between subject and environment, allowing forms to merge seamlessly into swirling organic backgrounds. The result is a composition where boundaries become unstable, emphasizing the interconnectedness of body, landscape, and instinct.
Created entirely in oil pastel, the work reflects Flatt’s intuitive approach to drawing and mark making. Dense linework, layered color, and scumbled textures create movement across the surface, while recurring hues unify the separate panels into a continuous visual experience. Rather than relying on rigid preparatory sketches, Flatt allows the composition to emerge naturally through gesture and repetition, reinforcing the organic rhythms central to the piece.
In Desire Lines, Flatt presents femininity not as separate from nature, but as inseparable from it. The work becomes both celebration and meditation, suggesting that the divisions humans construct between themselves and the natural world may be far more fragile than they appear.
