Artist Profile: Kevin Jackson

Kevin Jackson is a photographer based in New York City, originally born in Washington, DC and raised in Bowie, Maryland. His photographic practice explores a range of subjects including landscapes, cityscapes, street photography, and portraiture, often capturing quiet moments that reveal unexpected beauty within everyday environments.

Jackson studied Computer Science at New York University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. His path into photography began unexpectedly the summer after graduating from NYU when he rescued a discarded Canon Rebel XT camera that had been set aside as technology waste while he was working at the university dorm office. What began as casual experimentation quickly grew into a lasting passion for photography.

In early 2020 Jackson was accepted into his first exhibition at NYU’s Kimmel Gallery. That experience marked the beginning of his professional exhibition history, with his work subsequently appearing in galleries and exhibitions internationally. His photography has been shown at the Glasgow Gallery of Photography in Scotland, Blank Wall Gallery in Athens, Decode Gallery in Arizona, Bedstuy Art House and AM:PM Gallery in Brooklyn, and LoosenArt at Millepiani Gallery in Rome.

Jackson’s recent work explores creative uses of motion and atmosphere within photography. While much of his practice focuses on urban street photography, he also seeks moments where light, landscape, and movement intersect to create contemplative scenes that draw viewers into the image.

Description

after the storm was captured during a summer hike in upstate New York following an intense thunderstorm. After reaching the top of the trail, dark clouds quickly gathered overhead and the hikers raced down the path as thunder cracked across the sky and rain poured down.

When the storm finally began to pass, the atmosphere of the forest shifted dramatically. The rain softened and the surrounding landscape appeared calm and luminous. Jackson paused along the trail and noticed the delicate interplay of light and color throughout the woods.

Through the camera lens he observed subtle variations of green across the forest floor and the shimmering presence of algae moving through a nearby stream. The moment felt unexpectedly peaceful after the intensity of the storm, and he captured the scene through a single photograph.

Though Jackson’s work often focuses on urban environments and street photography, this image reflects his interest in the quiet visual moments that emerge when light, landscape, and atmosphere align. after the storm invites viewers to slow down and notice the subtle beauty that can appear immediately after moments of chaos.
