Solo Statement: Doesn’t Play Well with Others
April 17, 2026
A solo statement for art too commanding to coexist.
About the Program
Some work doesn’t share space. It doesn’t wait its turn on the wall.
Solo Statement: Doesn’t Play Well with Others is Bushwick Gallery’s one-night takeover program — a complete transformation of the gallery by a single artist whose vision fills every inch of the room.
For one evening, the gallery is yours.
No shared walls. No compromise.
Just one artist and one unfiltered vision, fully realized.
This program celebrates the artist who creates work that stands alone — powerful, immersive, and uncontainable within a group context.
Who Should Apply
This opportunity is open to artists working in any medium — painting, sculpture, photography, performance, installation, or digital. We’re looking for work that commands attention and transforms the gallery into a singular experience.
Ideal candidates are:
• Artists with a strong, self-directed voice
• Creators whose concepts define the environment itself
• Makers who thrive when given full spatial and creative freedom
• Visionaries whose work carries presence — even in silence
No prior gallery experience is required.
Just conviction, readiness, and a vision that can stand alone.

Why It Matters
Solo Statement provides a rare chance to take over an entire gallery — to make it yours, without negotiation or interruption.
It’s not a collaboration or a compromise. It’s a declaration.
