April Baez is a Brooklyn-based self-taught artist whose practice celebrates the intersection of spirituality, emotion, and imagination. Through her sculpted heavy-texture acrylic paintings, she transforms color into a language of healing and joy. Each work becomes an exploration of how art can hold the invisible weight of feeling while radiating life, curiosity, and faith.
Baez’s visual world is tactile and immersive. She builds her compositions in thick relief, shaping paint with palette knives, pastry tools, and her hands until it takes on the physical presence of sculpture. The process itself is one of devotion, a slow act of discovery that channels emotion into form. Drawing inspiration from nature’s abundance and from her own journey through grief and renewal, she paints gardens of color that pulse with energy and reverence.
Her work exists at the meeting point of texture and transcendence. Beneath its exuberant surface lies a deeply contemplative spirit that considers how joy can emerge from struggle and how imagination can become a bridge between the seen and the unseen. For Baez, painting is not only creation but communion.

Description
The Elusive Heart of the Rainbow Garden invites the viewer into a vision of paradise seen through the lens of color. Inspired by accounts of near-death experiences describing hues beyond human perception, Baez imagined a heavenly garden suffused with divine energy. Over nine months she built the piece flower by flower, shaping each petal by hand before layering and assembling them into a radiant topography.
The surface vibrates with movement. Color blooms across sculpted forms, creating a garden that seems to breathe. The piece is both earthly and ethereal, grounded in craftsmanship yet reaching toward the spiritual. It is a meditation on faith, creativity, and the courage to imagine what might exist beyond the boundaries of sight and understanding.
Baez’s technique merges the sensory and the sacred. In the weight of texture and the play of light, she finds a language for transformation, a reminder that beauty is not static but continually in bloom.
