Bio:
Roan Yarn is an artist whose work has evolved dramatically over the past three decades, transitioning from bold, expressive figurative pieces to serene and evocative landscapes. Roan’s artistic journey began in an artist loft warehouse complex, where the vibrant, collaborative community of painters, sculptors, and musicians provided fertile ground for creative exploration. During this time, Roan also played bass in an avant-garde jazz quartet, an experience that nurtured their appreciation for improvisation, experimentation, and abstraction—qualities that have since influenced their approach to painting.

A self-described “super senior” during their college years, Roan took the time to explore and develop their artistic voice at their own pace. This slow, organic process allowed for a deeper connection with the creative journey, fostering an appreciation for the evolution of a work rather than rushing toward a final product. This philosophy continues to inform Roan’s approach, with each piece evolving naturally over time, reflecting the layers of thought, emotion, and experience that build during the creative process.

Today, Roan’s work spans both figurative abstraction and tranquil landscapes, blending vivid hues and evocative compositions. Their landscapes, in particular, invite viewers to step into the scene, creating a space for reflection and emotional connection.

1. Winter’s Night

Year of Creation: 2024
Medium: : Oil on fine cotton canvas
Dimensions: 16 inches x 20 inches
Price: $16,500

Description:
Winter’s Night is a captivating and tranquil scene painted by Roan Yarn. This piece portrays the quiet stillness of a snow-covered landscape beneath the vast expanse of a cosmic night sky. With oil on canvas, Roan skillfully captures the interplay between the cold, crisp winter air and the soft, celestial light that illuminates the snow-laden mountains and trees.

The flowing stream, partially frozen, cuts through the snow, reflecting the shimmering hues of the night sky. Tall, bare birch trees stand as silent witnesses to the scene, their silver bark adding a touch of delicate contrast against the darker elements of the composition. The mountains in the background, painted with soft shades of pink and white, evoke a sense of timelessness and grandeur.

Roan’s use of color—particularly the deep blues, purples, and bright whites of the snow—imbues the painting with an ethereal, otherworldly quality. The swirling, almost mystical sky suggests a galaxy of stars, making the viewer feel connected to both the earth and the cosmos. This painting invites the viewer to experience the serene beauty and stillness of a winter’s night, offering a moment of reflection and wonder.
