Bio:
Jonosuke Tanaka, an interdisciplinary artist with Japanese and Chinese heritage, blends his background in interior design with a passion for free-form artistic expression. After studying at the New York School of Interior Design, Jonosuke expanded his creative focus from architecture and installations to tattoos, paintings, and eventually sculpture and sound. His philosophy centers on “formlessness,” a concept that drives his preference for unrestricted, fluid artistry. Jonosuke’s approach, characterized by his use of watercolor and oil, evokes a sense of oneness—fluid, nebulous, and open to interpretation.
Informed by his experiences and inspired by Asian cinema, Jonosuke’s work captures human and animal forms in a way that challenges traditional perceptions. Each piece is a window into a world where beauty, fear, joy, and sadness coexist, exploring complex emotions without adhering to rigid visual definitions. Residing in New York City, Jonosuke continues to push boundaries, inviting viewers to question the way they perceive the world around them.

Description:
Inspired by the Japanese film Soratine by Kitano Takeshi, Human reflects Jonosuke’s fascination with capturing the raw essence of human emotions. The piece, a unique blend of acrylic and oil, radiates a sense of transience, achieved through a “melting” effect that speaks to the ephemeral nature of identity. In his characteristic abstract style, Jonosuke employs flowing strokes and liquid-like textures to evoke a sense of both beauty and unease, challenging viewers to feel rather than define. The juxtaposition of fluid shapes with bold outlines draws attention to the complexity of human emotions, allowing a glimpse into Jonosuke’s artistic journey towards expressing the indescribable.
